SHUTE, a parish in the hundred of COLYTON, county of DEVON, 2 miles (N.) from Colyton, containing 593 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, annexed to the vicarage of Colyton, in the peculiar jurisdiction of the Dean and Chapter of Exeter. The church, dedicated to St. Michael, contains a memorial of Charles Bickford Templar, Esq., who was lost in the wreck of the Halsewell East Indiaman, in 1786.
