SOUTH HUISH

"SOUTH HUISH, a parish in the hundred of Stanborough, county Devon, 5 miles. S.W. of Kingsbridge, its post town, The parish, which is very irregular in form, is situated in a vale on Bigbury Bay, and contains the hamlets of Silverhill, Glumpton, and Hope Cove. It is a meet for the Marlborough hounds. The living is a curacy annexed to the vicarage of Alvington, in the diocese of Exeter. The church, dedicated to St. Andrew, is a small ancient edifice, with a square tower containing four bells. The parochial charities produce about £1 per annum. There is a chapel for the Plymouth Brethren at Glumpton. The Earl of Devon is lord of the manor and principal landowner.
