SPREYTON

[Description(s) from The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland (1868)]

"SPREYTON, a parish in the hundred of Wonford, county Devon, 7 miles N.E. of Okehampton, its post town, and 3 from Whiddon Down. The village, which is of small extent, is chiefly agricultural. There are some traces of lead in the parish. The village occupies the highest ground in the county, and commands a view of 30 churches. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Exeter, value £135. The church is dedicated to St. Michael. The parochial charities produce about £4 per annum. Barton Hall is the principal residence."
