Extracts from a Memorandum Book Belonging to Thomas Roberts and Family of Stockleigh Pomeroy

Trans. Devon. Assoc. vol. 10, (1878) pp. 315-329.

by

Paul Q. Karkeek

Prepared by Michael Steer

The paper, delivered at the Association's July 1878 Paignton meeting presents the contents of the Roberts family's general notebook. The Roberts' lived on a farm named Town Living in Stockleigh Pomeroy and appear to have been well-to-do yeomen. Their memorandum book contains records of such public events as came within the writer's notice, as well as entries that throw light on the manner of life in rural Devon during the reigns of James I and Charles I. Google with the Archive Organization has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. The Internet Archive makes available, in its Community Texts Collection (originally known as Open Source Books), books that have been digitised by Google from a number of libraries. These are books on which copyright has expired, and are available free for educational and research use. This rare book was produced from a copy held by the University of California Library, and is available from the Internet Archive.
