This is the last Will and Testament of me Thomas Hockday of Stoke Gabriel in the County of Devon Mariner (but now belonging to his Majesty’s Ship Boyne) being in good health and of a Sound and disposing mind memory and understanding (thanks be given to Almighty God for the same) but calling to mind the uncertainty of this Life Do for the preventing ffirst and principally I commend my Soul into the Hands of Almighty God my Creator most Humbly beseeching him of his Infinite Mercy to receive it into Life Everlasting in and through the Merits and Intercession of Jesus Christ my blessed Saviour and Redeemer And my Body I commit to the Earth or Sea which ever shall please the Almighty to be decently buried in a Christian like manner and as touching the distribution of all such Worldly Estate and Effects as it hath pleased the Almighty to bestow upon me I do hereby give and bequeath the same as followeth (that is to say) Item it is my Will and I hereby direct and desire that all such Debts as shall be due and owing from me at the time of my decease unto any person or persons whomsoever and my ffuneral Expences be Paid off and discharged by my Executor hereinafter named as soon after my Death as conveniently may be and from and after Payment thereof All the rest residue and remainder of my Goods and Chattels Personal and Testamentary Estate of what nature or kind soever I do hereby give and bequeath the same and every Part and Parts thereof unto my Worthy ffriend John Hawkes of Stoke Gabriel aforesaid Mason his Executors Administrators and Assigns for ever And I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint the said John Hawkes the only and Sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking and making void all and every other Will and Wills by me at any time heretofore made and I do declare this to be my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I the said Thomas Hockday the Testator have to my last Will and Testament set my Hand and seal this Nineteenth day of October in the Year of Our Lord One thousand seven hundred and Eighty The Mark X of Thomas Hockday
