Ancient Leaden Cistern from Waddeton Court

Devon & Cornwall Notes & Queries, vol. 11, (1920-21), illus., pp. 241-246.

by

Hugh R.

Prepared by Michael Steer

The Note refers to an ancient lead cistern removed from Waddeton House near Stoke Gabriel in the late 1900s. The author was afforded an opportunity to photograph and describe it, as well as speculate on its origin while examining the collection of ancient deeds at the house. Waddeton House is now a scheduled historic building set in fine gardens. Google with the Archive Organization has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. The Internet Archive makes available, in its Community Texts Collection (originally known as Open Source Books), books that have been digitised by Google from a number of libraries. These are books on which copyright has expired, and are available free for educational and research use. The copy of this rare book is held in the collection of Albert William Bryant Messenger, and is available from the the Internet Archive.
