STOKINGHAM, a parish in the hundred of COLERIDGE, county of DEVON, 5¼ miles (E. by S.) from Kingsbridge, containing 1487 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, with the perpetual curacies of Chivelstone and Sherford annexed, in the archdeaconry of Totness, and diocese of Exeter, rated in the king's books at £48. 7. 8½., and in the patronage of the Crown. The church, dedicated to St. Barnabas, has an ancient wooden screen. There is a place of worship for Independents.
