Thomas Luny, Marine Painter

Trans. Devon. Assoc., vol. 18 (1886), pp. 443-449.

by

Robert Dymond

Prepared by Michael Steer

Thomas Luny (1759-1837) was a Royal Academician who specialised in seascapes and other sorts of marine works. He is thought to have lived and worked in Teignmouth from about 1810, where most of his artistic work took place. This paper, read at the Association's 1886 St Marychurch meeting introduces Luny; presents and discusses information on his life and times and describes several of his better-known paintings. It is supplemented by Part II, a catalogue of all, or most of his work, presented at the Association's 1887 meeting. Google with the Archive Organization has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. The Internet Archive makes available, in its Community Texts Collection (originally known as Open Source Books), books that have been digitised by Google from a number of libraries. These are books on which copyright has expired, and are available free for educational and research use. This rare book was produced from a copy held by the Princeton University Library, and is available from the Internet Archive.
