Thomas Luny, Marine Painter. Part II
Trans. Devon. Assoc., vol. 19, (1887), pp. 107-190.
by
Robert Dymond
Prepared by Michael Steer
Thomas Luny (1759-1837) was a Royal Academician who specialised in seascapes and other sorts of marine works. He is thought to have lived and worked in Teignmouth, where most of his artistic work took place, from about 1810. This paper, read at the Association's 1887 Plympton meeting, is a descriptive catalogue of 296 of his works, all but nine of which were completed in Devonshire. There is also information on the provenance of most of the paintings. Google with the Archive Organization has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. The Internet Archive makes available, in its Community Texts Collection (originally known as Open Source Books), books that have been digitised by Google from a number of libraries. These are books on which copyright has expired, and are available free for educational and research use. This rare book was produced from a copy held by the Princeton University Library, and is available from the Internet Archive.
