R.M. Marsh-Dunn [Obituary]

Transactions of the Devonshire Association, 1885, Vol XVII, p.66.

Prepared by Michael Steer

Little else has been recorded of Mr R.M. Marsh-Dunn, J.P.’s life, but the May 22, 1922 issue of the Western Times recorded the death of Rev. Richard Marsh-Dunn, who had been vicar of nearby Shaldon since 1890, and who was ordained deacon a year after the demise of the present Mr Marsh-Dunn, the unusual hyphenated surname suggesting a relationship.  The article, from a copy of a rare and much sought-after journal can be downloaded from the Internet Archive. Google has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. These books, on which copyright has expired, are available for free educational and research use, both as individual books and as full collections to aid researchers.

R. M. Marsh-Dunn was a Justice of the Peace for the County of Devon, and was for many years a resident at Teignmouth, where he took an active part in all matters affecting the welfare of the town.

He joined the Association in 1873, and was one of the Vice-Presidents that year. For several years subsequently he constantly attended the annual meetings, until increasing infirmities obliged him to abstain from all excitement.

He died at his residence, Carlton Lodge, Teignmouth, in July last year, a few days before the meeting at Newton Abbot commenced.
