Prepared by Michael Steer
In the late 17th century, John Risdon, a relative of Tristram Risdon the historian, lived in the building now known as Manor Cottages, Netherton. His "Commonplace Book", dated 1683-89 and described by Jordan, included among other things, entries relating to cider making: In 1699, he obtained a life-interest in certain portions of the manor house property at Netherton, and the right incident there to of having applies used for cider pounded there. Google with the Archive Organization has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. The Internet Archive makes available, in its Community Texts Collection (originally known as Open Source Books), books that have been digitised by Google from a number of libraries. These are books on which copyright has expired, and are available free for educational and research use. This rare book was produced from a copy held by the New York Public Library, and is available from the Internet Archive.
