[Description(s) from The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland (1868)]

"TEMPLETON, a parish in the hundred of Witheridge, county Devon, 4½ miles N.W. of Tiverton, its post town, and 8 from Bampton. The village is situated on a branch of the river Exe. The manor formerly belonged to the Knights Templars, and afterwards to the hospitallers of St. John of Jerusalem. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Exeter, value £162. The church is dedicated to St. Margaret. The parochial charities produce about £1 per annum."
