F.J. Snell (1890-1925), lived at Plympton St. Maurice of which he painted many scenes, but also painted views of Plymouth (especially Cattewater and Mountbatten), Plymstock, Elburton and Wembury. He founded a watercolour society in Plymouth and at one time was the Master in Charge of Art at Blundell's School in Tiverton. He was a prolific and popular author of histories such as this. A print copy of the book is held at the University of Toronto Library and was produced from a digital copy that can be downloaded from https://archive.org/details/chroniclesoftwyf00sneluoft
