Will of John Ewings, Mariner, of Topsham

In the Name of God Amen I John Ewings of Topsham in the County of Devon Mariner being weak in Body but of a sound mind hereby revoking all former Wills by me made do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following ffirst and principally I commend my Soul to God Almighty hoping through the Merits of Jesus Christ my Saviour to receive remission of my Sins and my Body to the Earth to be decently interr’d at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named And as to my Worldly Estate wherewith God has been pleased to bless me I give and dispose thereof as follows ffirst I give and bequeath to my Sons John, Christopher and fflavel and to my Daughters Ann Mogridge and Rebecca Burridge one Guinea a peice to buy a mourning ring Item I give and bequeath unto my very good ffriends Mr John Rous and Mr Richard ffrancis of Topsham the Summe of two hundred pounds In Trust and for the seperate use and behoof of my daughter Sarah now the Wife of Mr Nicholas Peters apart from her said Husband to be by them the said John Rous and Richard ffrancis disposed off as she my said Daughter Sarah whether Sole or marryed shall direct without any the Controul of her said Husband it being my intent that he shall not intermeddle or have anything to do herewith but be forever debarred and excluded therefrom ffor the payment of which said Legacy of two hundred pounds I hereby charge all my Estate both reall and personall and further I give devise and bequeath unto my son and daughter Daniell Ewings and Lucy Ewings their Heirs and Assigns all that my Messuage and Tenement with the Appurtenances in Topsham aforesaid now in the possession of John Westcott and also all those my three ffeilds or Closes of Land and Garden or Gardens situate at the upper End of the Street behind my dwelling house in Topsham aforesaid and all other my Messuages Lands Tenements and Hereditaments with their and every of their Appurtenances in Topsham aforesaid or elsewhere whereof and wherein I stand seized of any Estate of Inheritance either in possession or reversion To hold to my said son and daughter Daniell and Lucy their Heirs and Assigns for ever To the use of them the said Daniell Ewings and Lucy Ewings their Heirs and Assigns for ever as Tenants in Common and not as joint Tenants Chargeable nevertheless with the payment of the said Legacy of two hundred pound to my said daughter Sarah in Trust for her as aforesaid And ffurther I give to my said son and daughter Daniell and Lucy Ewings all the Hangings and other ffurniture in the house wherein I now live And also the two ffurnaces or Coppers and a Lead Pump there and in the right in the seats I now in the Parish Church of Topsham aforesaid And Lastly all the rest residue and remainder of my ready money Bills Binds Mortgages and other Securities for money and all other my Goods and Chattles Personall and Testamentary Estate whatsoever my Debts and Legacies being paid off and discharged I give and bequeath to my said son Daniell Ewings and Lucy Ewings equally to be divided between them And to make constitute and appoint my said son and daughter Daniell Ewings and Lucy Ewings joynt executors of this my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty fourth day of June in the seventh year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second by the Grace of God King of Great Britain and so forth And in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and thirty four Jno Ewings
