TOR-MOHAM is a parish in Newton-Abbot district, statistically identical with Torquay town. The town's economy was initially based upon fishing and agriculture, but in the early 19th century the town began to develop into a fashionable seaside resort, initially frequented by members of the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars while anchored in the bay and later by the cream of Victorian society as the town's fame spread. This retrospective treats with Torbay's history from the very earliest times to the arrival in 1871 of Napoleon III. Google with the Archive Organization has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. The Internet Archive makes available, in its Community Texts Collection (originally known as Open Source Books), books that have been digitised by Google from a number of libraries. These are books on which copyright has expired, and are available free for educational and research use. This rare book was produced from a copy held by the University of Michigan Library, and is available from the Internet Archive.
