"TRENTISHOE is a small village and parish, on the coast of the Bristol Channel, near a rivulet, 8 miles E. by N. of Ilfracombe, and 5 miles from Combe Martin. It has 132 souls, and 1571 acres of land, mostly belonging to Mrs. Griffiths and Mrs. Chichester, the former of whom is patroness of the rectory, valued in K.B. at £8. 8s. 4d., and in 1831 at £125, and now held by her son, the Rev. C. Griffiths, B.A., who has 36A. of glebe, and a good residence, in a pictrueesque valley. The Church (St Peter,) is a small ancient edifice, with a tower and two bells. The tithes were commuted in 1841, for £80 per annum. In the reigns of Edward I. and II., the two principal estates belonged to the families of Ralegh and De Trendishoe, or Trentishoe."
