WASHFIELD

"WASHFIELD, a parish in the hundred of West Budleigh, county Devon, 2½ miles N.W. of Tiverton, its post town. The village is situated on the river Exe, and is supposed to have been the site of a Roman station. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Exeter, value £407. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, contains brasses of the Worth family. The parochial charities produce about £30 per annum. There is a National school for both sexes. J. F. Worth, Esq., is lord of the manor."
