Edward Ashworth, architect and artist. Born: 1814 at Colleton, near Chulmleigh. Died: after 1883. He was active in Australia, New Zealand and Hong King 1842-46, and rebuilt many churches in Devon. He was considered to be the West Country's leading ecclesiastical architect and had been responsible for the restoration of Wynard's Almshouses in 1863 and the design of St Nicholas Church, opposite St Nicholas Priory in Exeter. His original drawings are held in the Westcountry Studies Library, Exeter. This rare book was produced from a digital copy held by the University of Michigan Library that can be downloaded from Google Books. Those on which copyright has expired are available for free educational and research use, both as individual books and as full collections to aid researchers.
