YARCOMBE, a parish in the hundred of AXMINSTER, county of DEVON, 5½ miles (W.) from Chard, containing 793 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Exeter, rated in the king's books at £28, endowed with £200 private benefaction, and £200 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Crown. The church is dedicated to St. John the Baptist. There is a place of worship for Baptists. A small school is partly supported by annual subscriptions of about £5.
