"Hawthorn parish was formed in 1863 from that of Easington, and includes the township of the same name.

"Hawthorn Township comprises an area of 1552 acres, and the value of property assessed to the county rate is £4901, 11s.

"The village of Hawthorn is pleasantly situated upon an eminence about half a mile north of Easington."
