“ASHEN, a parish in the hundred of HINCKFORD, county of ESSEX, 2½ miles (S. W. by S.) from Clare, containing 293 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Middlesex, and diocese of London, rated in the king's books at £8, and in the patronage of the King, as Duke of Lancaster.
