“AVELEY, a parish (formerly a market town) in the hundred of CHAFFORD, county of ESSEX, 1¾ mile (N.E.) from Purfleet, containing 733 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Essex, and diocese of London, rated in the king's books at £14.10.5, and in the patronage of the Bishop of London.
