Billericay is a small market town, and a separate parish for ecclesiastial purposes, but for civil purposes within the parish of Great Burstead, and the hundred of Barstable, and the head of a union of Billericay for 24 parishes.. it is in Rochester diocese, Essex Archdenconry, and denrery of Banrstable, and in the Brentwood count court and Police district. It is situated on a Eminence at the junctionof the road from London to Rochford and Southend Southend, and that from Chelmsford to the ferry over the Thames at Tilbury: 6 miles from Brentwood station 23 miles north-east from Whitechapel church, 16 1/2 north-west from Rochford, 15 north from Tilbury, and 18 north-west from Southend.
