“BOWERS-GIFFORD, a parish in the hundred of BARSTABLE, county of ESSEX, 4½ miles (S. W. by W.) from Rayleigh, containing 221 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Essex, and diocese of London, rated in the king's books at £25, and in the patronage of John Curtis, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. Margaret.
