"FARNHAM, a parish in the hundred of CLAVERING, county of ESSEX, 3¼ miles (W. by N.) from Stansted-Mountfitchet, containing 470 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Colchester, and diocese of London, rated in the king's books at £23. 8. 9., and in the patronage of the President and Fellows of Trinity College, Oxford. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, has lately received an addition of seventy free sittings, the Incorporated Society for the enlargement of churches and chapels having granted £18 towards defraying the expense."
