"HAWKWELL, a parish in the hundred of ROCHFORD, county of ESSEX, 1¾ mile (N. W.) from Rochford, containing 362 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Essex, and diocese of London, rated in the king's books at £13. 6. 8. - Bristow, Esq. was patron in 1791. The church is dedicated to St. Mary."
