"LAYER-BRETON, a parish in the hundred of WINSTREE, county of ESSEX, 6 miles (S. W. by S.) from Colchester, containing 259 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Colchester, and diocese of London, rated in the king's books at £7. The Rev. J. F. Benwell was patron in 1819.
