"SAMPFORD (LITTLE), a parish in the hundred of FRESHWELL, county of ESSEX, 3¾ miles (N. E. by E.) from Thaxted, containing 365 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the jurisdiction of the Commissary of Essex and Herts, concurrently with the Consistorial Court of the Bishop of London, rated in the king's books at £11, and in the patronage of the Warden and Fellows of New College, Oxford.
