"PAGLESHAM, a parish in the hundred of ROCHFORD, county of ESSEX, 4 miles (N. E. by E.) from Rochford, containing 396 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Essex, and diocese of London, rated in the king's books at £26, and in the patronage of the Bishop of London. The church is dedicated to St. Peter. This parish includes the western part of Wallisea island: on the north runs the navigable river Crouch, and on the south the Bromhill river." "WALLASEA (ISLE-OF), an island, partly in the parishes of CANEWDON, EASTWOOD, PAGLESHAM, GREAT-STAMBRIDGE, and LITTLE-WAKERING, hundred of ROCHFORD, county of ESSEX, 6 miles (E. N. E.) from Rochford. It is now a peninsula, formed by the rivers Crouch and Broomhill, and joined to the main land by a causeway, kept up at the expense of the several parishes to which it belongs."
