"SHELLEY, a parish in the hundred of ONGAR, county of ESSEX, 1½ mile (N.) from Chipping-Ongar, containing 179 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Essex, and diocese of London, rated in the king's books at £9. 15. J. Tomlinson, Esq. was patron in 1812. The church is dedicated to St. Peter."
