"STIFFORD, a parish in the hundred of CHAFFORD, county of ESSEX, 1¾ mile (N. by W.) from Gray's Thurrock, containing 206 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Essex, and diocese of London, rated in the king's books at £15, and in the patronage of the Master and Fellows of Pembroke College, Oxford.
