[Description(s) from The National Gazetteer (1868)]
"DRIFFIELD, a parish in the hundred of Crowthorne, in the county of Gloucester, 4 miles S.E. of Cirencester, its post town and nearest railway station, and 5 S.E. of Cricklade. It is situated near the Thames and Severn canal. The land is equally divided between arable and pasture, with 60 acres of woodland. The living is a vicarage* in the diocese of Gloucester and Bristol, value £270, in the patronage of the Rev. R. M. Ashe. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, is a modern structure. There is a free school, with an endowment of £12 per annum. Colonel Vansittart is lord of the manor."
