"WESTCOTE, a parish in the upper division of Slaughter hundred, county Gloucester, 3½ miles N.W. of Stow-on-the-Wold, and 6 S.E. of Burford. It comprises the hamlets of Upper and Lower Westcote and Gawcomb. The soil of the uplands is a stone brash, and in the lowlands a strong clay. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Gloucester and Bristol, value £200. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. The Wesleyans have a chapel, and there is a village school. The Rev. T. Pinder Pantin is rector and lord of the manor."
