"AIGHTON, (or Overhacking), a hamlet in the parish of Great Mitton, hundred of Blackburn, in the county palatine of Lancaster, 4 miles to the S.W. of Clitheroe. It includes the hamlets of Bailey and Chaigley. It is situated on the Mersey, near Longridge Fell. The Roman Catholic College of Stonyhurst is in this hamlet. The inhabitants are chiefly employed in the cotton manufacture. There is a free school, and some almshouses.

BAILEY, a hamlet in the parish of Great Mitton, and hundred of Blackburn, in the county palatine of Lancaster, 7 miles to the N. of Blackburn.

CHAIGLEY, a hamlet in the parish of Great Mitton, lower division of the hundred of Blackburn, in the county of Lancaster, 5 miles W. of Clitheroe.
