"HARPURHEY, a township in the parish of Manchester, hundred of Salford, county Lancaster, 2½ miles N.E. of Manchester. It is a considerable village, forming a suburb of Manchester. Part of the inhabitants are engaged in the mills for spinning and printing cotton. A church has recently been erected here, the living of which is a rectory in the diocese of Manchester.
