"HAUGHTON, a township in the parish of Manchester, hundred of Salford, county Lancaster, 3 miles S.W. of Ashton-under-Lyne. It is situated near the river Tame, in the midst of a colliery district. This village had been from an early period a principal seat of the felt hat manufacture, which trade is still carried on, though considerably reduced since the introduction of silk hats.
