"HOLME, a chapelry in the township of Cliviger, and parish of Whalley, hundred of Blackburn, county Lancaster, 3 miles S.E. of Burnley by the Rose Grove, Burnley, and Todmorden branch of the Lancashire and Yorkshire railway, on which it is a station. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Manchester, value £101. There is a National school. Holme House was once the seat of Dr. Whitaker, the historian of Whalley."
