"INSKIP-WITH-SOWERBY, a township in the parish of St. Michael-on-Wyre, hundred of Amounderness, county Lancaster, 7 miles N.W. of Preston, its post town, and 5 S.W. of Garstang. It is situated near the river Wyre. The soil is very light and peaty. The inhabitants are chiefly employed in agriculture. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Manchester, value £105, in the patronage of the Vicar of St. Michael-on-Wyre. There is a National school for both sexes. The Earl of Derby is lord of the manor."
