"SHIRESHEAD, an ecclesiastical district in the parish of Cockerham, hundred of Lonsdale South of the Sands, county Lancaster, 4 miles N.W. of Garstang, its post town. The village is small, and chiefly agricultural. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Manchester, value £93, in the patronage of the vicar. The church is a modern structure dedicated to St. Paul."
