"URMSTON, a township in the parish of Flixton, hundred of Salford, county Lancaster, 6 miles S.W. of Manchester. The village is situated on the river Mersey. The soil is sandy, with a subsoil of sand and gravel. There are an infant school and a chapel for the Wesleyans. G. J. M. Ridehalgh, Esq., is lord of the manor."
