"WEST HOUGHTON, a chapelry in the parish of Deane, hundred of Salford, county Lancaster, 5 miles E. of Wigan. The village is very considerable, and many of the inhabitants are engaged in the manufactures of muslin and jaconet. The living is a perpetual curacy, value £160, in the patronage of the Vicar of Dean. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. The Wesleyans have a chapel.
