The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

"CHILCOMB, a parish in the hundred of Fawley (lower half), Winchester division of the county of Hants, 2 miles S.E. of the Winchester railway station on the South-Western line. It is situated in a valley through which the river Hitchen flows. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Winchester, value £167, in the patronage of the bishop. The church is small, and in the Norman style of architecture, with wooden tower. It is said to have been erected in 1066. Nearly the whole parish belongs to the Bishop of Winchester."
