National Gazetteer (1868) - Dummer

"DUMMER, a parish in the Basingstoke division of the lower half of the hundred of Birmondspit, in the county of Southampton, 5 miles S.W. of Basingstoke, hits post town, and 13 N. of Winchester. The parish is hilly, abounding in pleasant scenery. It is situated near the Basingstoke canal and the South-Western railway. There is an iron foundry. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Winchester, value £415, in the patronage of W. Adams, Esq. The church, dedicated to All Saints, is an ancient structure, containing some monumental figures in brass and inscriptions. The charities are £15 per annum endowment for the school, and £8 for other purposes. Stephen Terry, Esq., is lord of the manor. Dummer House is the principal residence."
