The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

"OLD ALRESFORD, a parish in the hundred of Fawley, in the Alton division of the county of Hants, close to New Alresford. It lies on the other side of the river Itchen. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Winchester, value £556, in the patronage of the bishop. The church, which was rebuilt in 1753 has a fine tower, and is dedicated to St. Mary. Admiral Lord Rodney formerly resided in Old Alresford House, now belonging to his descendant Lord Rodney. This village is within the jurisdiction of the Cheyney Court of Winchester. A very neat free school has been erected, at the sole expense of Miss Onslow."
