"STEEP, a parish in the upper half division of East Meon hundred, county Hants, 2 miles N. of Petersfield, its post town, and near the Petersfield station on the London and Portsmouth railway. The village is chiefly agricultural. The parish includes the hamlet of South Ambersham. The living is a curacy annexed to the vicarage of East Meon, in the diocese of Winchester. The church has a tower and five bells. The interior contains monuments of the Baker family. It was restored in 1840. There is a National school. The Primitive Methodists have a chapel. Ashford House is the principal residence. "
