The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

"WINCHFIELD, a parish in the hundred of Odiham, county Hants, 2 miles S.W. of Harford Bridge, and 2 N.E. of Odiham. It is a station on the London and South-Western railway. The village is situated on the Basingstoke canal, which has a wharf here. The surface is flat and the soil a mixture of loam and clay. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Winchester, value £250. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, contains a carved pulpit bearing date 1634, and a wall painting of Dives and Lazarus."
