Little Marcle, Herefordshire - Extract from National Gazetteer, 1868

"LITTLE MARCLE, (was Marcle, Little -RL 2003) a parish in the hundred of Radlow, county Hereford, 2 miles S.W. of Ledbury, its post town. The village, which is of small extent, is wholly agricultural, and the surface is boldly undulating. The tithes have been commuted for a rent- charge of £225. A glebe house has recently been erected by the rector. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Hereford, value £230, in the patronage of the bishop. The church, dedicated to St. Michael, is an ancient stone structure, with a small ivy-covered tower containing two bells. The chancel has been thoroughly restored and a new eastern window inserted at the expense of the rector. There is a charity consisting in an annuity of £4 bequeathed by the late Thomas Hanbury, Esq. The Earl of Somers is lord of the manor."
