LLANGARREN.

LLANGARREN is a large extended parish, adjoining Whitchurch, Gannarew and Tretare, about 6 miles from Ross, on the Monmouthshire side of the County.

The church is one of Ease to Lugwardine, St. Weonard's, Hentland, and Little Dewchurch; being a Perpetual Curacy, in the gift of the Rev. Hugh Hanmer Morgan, B. D. It is a commodius building of stone, with spire and 6 bells, pleasantly situated on an eminence; it was enlarged in 1841, and now contains 475 sittings, 194 of which are free. Over the alter are two very beautiful tablets, most elaborately carved in free-stone; one in particular, erected to the memory of William Gyllym, sen., of Langstone, who died 1698, his wife Benedicta, died 1693, likewise to their children: the other is also put up to commemorate a portion of the same family. There is likewise a handsome tablet, the letters upon which are nearly obliterated, to Rowland Scudamore, Esq., of Treworgan, a branch of the honourable family of that name, of Holme Lacy, 1697. A portion of the edifice is undoubtedly of a very early period. On a neat white marble tablet, in the newly erected portion of the structure, is placed the following inscription, some portion of which is in reference to the enlargement of the Church: -

The Rev. John Jones,
of Langstone Court, in this Parish;
was born
July 11, 1810,
and died
