"STANTON-UPON-ARROW, (or Staunton-on-Arrow) a parish in the hundreds of Wigmore and Stretford, county Hereford, 9 miles W. of Leominster, its post town, and 5 N.E. of Kington. The village, which is chiefly agricultural, is situated on the river Arrow. The soil is of a mixed nature, and the land partly in hop-grounds. The living is a vicarage* in the diocese of Hereford, value £220, in the patronage of the lord chancellor. The church, dedicated to St. Peter, was rebuilt in 1864. There is a parochial free school for both sexes. Stanton Park is the principal residence. James King, Esq., M.P., is lord of the manor."
