MARCHIONESS OF PEMBROKE.

BOLEYN, 1533.

Anne Boleyn, daughter of Thomas first earl of Wiltshire, was created by king Henry the eighth marchioness of Pembroke. She was afterwards wife of that monarch and mother of queen Elizabeth.

 


MARQUIS OF NORTHAMPTON.

PARR, 16 February 1547.

William Parr was created by king Henry the eighth 1538 baron Parr, and succeeded to the titles of Ross, Fitzhugh, Marmion and Saint Quintin in right of his grandmother Elizabeth, daughter of Richard Fitzhugh lord Ross, Fitzhugh, Marmion and Saint Quintin. By the same monarch he was farther created 23 December 1543 earl of Essex, and by king Edward the sixth marquis of Northampton. Upon his death 1571 the titles of earl of Essex and marquis of Northampton became extinct, and the baronies descended to the family of Herbert earl of Pembroke.

MARQUIS OF HALIFAX.

SAVILE, 1682.

Sir George Savile baronet was created by king Charles the second 13 January 1666 baron Savile and viscount Halifax, 1679 earl of Halifax, and 1682 marquis of Halifax. The titles became extinct upon the death of William second marquis of Halifax 1699.

 


MARQUIS OF POWIS.

HERBERT, -- ----- 1687.

William Herbert, grandson of William first earl of Pembroke, was created by king Charles the first 2 April 1629 baron Powis. William, third lord Powis, was created by king Charles the second 4 April 1673 earl of Powis, and by king James the second viscount Montgomery and marquis of Powis. These titles became extinct 1748.
